West Virginia’s new cryptids license plate will go on sale Monday, November 2, at every Division of Motor Vehicles office in the state. Updates will be available at dmv.wv.gov.
West Virginia artist Jesse Corlis designed the plate, according to a release from the West Virginia Department of Transportation. It features the Flatwoods Monster, Mothman, Bigfoot, Sheepsquatch, Batboy, Veggie Man, the Webster County Werewolf, Ogua and the Grafton Monster.

“Tragically, Jesse passed away in 2023 before he had the opportunity to see the Cryptid plate come to fruition,” DMV Commissioner Everett Frazier said in the release. “We recognize his creativity, talent, and contributions to the West Virginia license plate program, and we are proud to see his work celebrated through this unique design.”
Corlis worked on the design at the DMV’s Kanawha City headquarters. He also designed the Protect Pollinators and Turtle wildlife plates.
“This design not only celebrates our state’s unique culture and storied heritage on every road we travel, but it also serves as a lasting tribute to the incredible artistic legacy of Jesse Corlis,” Transportation Secretary Stephen T. Rumbaugh said in the release.
Corlis’ murals include work at the Museum of American Glass in Weston and the Silver Bridge Memorial in Point Pleasant.
