BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan women’s soccer team suffered a tough home loss on Sunday afternoon, falling 4-0 to West Virginia State in a Mountain East Conference (MEC) match up at Culpepper Stadium.
State opened the scoring in the 18th minute on a strike from Laura Pouedras, assisted by Maria Alejandra Hernandez Diaz. Just seven minutes later, Sara París Fílter capitalized on a defensive lapse to double the Yellow Jackets’ lead.
Despite multiple first-half saves from senior goalkeeper Maite Coutinho, the Lady Bobcats entered halftime trailing 2-0 and struggling to gain a foothold in the midfield.
The Lady Bobcats could not generate consistent offensive threats, managing only four total shots, two of which were on goal. Ava Badallo and Hannah Murphy recorded the only shots on target.
Wesleyan travels to Glenville State University on Wednesday, Sept. 24 for a 6 p.m. match against the Pioneers.
