Wesleyan volleyball ends regular season with 3-2 win over Senators

BUCKHANNON – The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team played its conference rival Senators of Davis & Elkins College to close out the regular season Friday evening.

The Lady Bobcats won in five sets (26-24, 14-25, 26-28, 25-22, 15-9).

The Senators previously beat the Lady Bobcats 3-2 in September. The rematch would go to five sets and with three of the five sets being decided by a three-point margin or less. Both teams had similar stats as both tallied nine serving aces and hitting percentages were similar with Wesleyan at 15 percent and Davis & Elkins at 13 percent.

Notable performers for the Lady Bobcats included sophomore Bhrooke Axe who led the team in kills with 18. Axe and senior Jayla Cowherd both led the team defensively in blocks with six block assists each. Libero Alexis Moeschler recorded 30 digs on the night, continuing critical rallies for the Lady Bobcats. Moeschler also had a dominating performance at the service line, leading the team in serving aces with .four.

Emily Denison had 11 kills, eight digs, and four block assists for a solid overall performance offensively and defensively. Setter, Helena Kelley led the team with 24 assists. Jalynn West recorded 16 assists.
