Wesleyan track and field teams perform well at 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C– The West Virginia Wesleyan track and field team participated in the two-day Charlotte 49er Classic on Friday and Saturday.

Day One
 
The women’s events started with Samantha Cash and Aubrey Wiethe running 15.53 and 15.86, respectively. In the 100m hurdles. Faith Gandy and Ny’Tierra Hobbs followed that up with solid showings in the 100m dash. Gandy registered a top-10 finish in a competition filled primarily with Division I opponents. Gandy ran 12.21 while Hobbs crossed the line in 12.28 to finish 13th out of 48 competitors.
 
Wiethe finished in the top-10 in the 400m hurdles finishing with a time of 1:07.81. Maggie Kovalcik wrapped up day one with a leap of 5.22m in the long jump.
 
On the men’s side, Aaron Kupfner ran 15.82 in the 110m hurdles. Tanner Faulkiner finished in the top-10 of the 100m dash crossing the finish line in 10.81. Faulkiner’s time was good enough for eighth in the event. Scott Soucier ran a strong time of 50.45 in the 400m, with Justin Mcintyre finishing right behind him with a time of 50.48. Kupfner and Hayden Hess finished back-to-back in the 400m hurdles as the duo ran 59.91 and 59.92, respectively.
 
Evan Pyles was the lone Bobcat in the 10000m. Pyles had a strong showing in the 6.21-mile race, finishing in 33:48.55. In the field events, Oliver French secured a top-five finish in the javelin with a throw of 47.86m. Kenneth Okoye cleared the bar at 1.90m to take ninth in the high jump to conclude day one events.

Day Two

Kennedy Kuhns secured a top-five finish in javelin finishing as the highest Division II competitor in the event.
 
Ny’Tierra Hobbs had an impressive performance in the 200m dash posting a finishing time of 25.69. Samantha Cash took sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.15m on her first attempt. In the men’s triple jump, Kenneth Okoye landed a mark of 13.64 on his third attempt to take ninth in the event. Oliver French took 12th with a leap of 13.26m. Cash finished just outside of the top-10 as she cleared the bar at 1.58m.
