SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — West Virginia Wesleyan College athletes turned heads this past weekend at the Dave Labor Invitational hosted by Slippery Rock University. Competing against a strong regional field, the Bobcats recorded standout results across sprints, middle distance, long distance, hurdles, and field events.
- Men’s Highlights
- Taiwo Babawale-Thropp and Lucas Anderson electrified the track in the Men’s 100 Meter Dash, finishing 4th (10.70) and 6th (10.82) respectively in the finals.
- In the 200 Meter Dash, Royell Salmon sprinted to a 6th place finish with a time of 21.91, capping a successful day for Wesleyan’s men’s sprint group.
- Jonathan Norton and Cade Robinson put together one of the day’s strongest performances in the Men’s 1500 Meter Run, placing 5th (4:04.94) and 6th (4:05.02) respectively in a deep and tactical race.
- Reese Farquharson (59.51) and Marquis Trainer (1:01.50) competed in the Men’s 400 Meter Hurdles, earning top-20 finishes in a competitive field.
- In the Men’s 10000 Meter Run, Kent Niland led from the front to claim 1st place with a dominant time of 32:00.67, securing 10 points for Wesleyan and highlighting the team’s distance strength.
- Elijah Hannig added to the distance depth with a strong 6th-place finish in the 3000m Steeplechase (10:08.13).
- In the field, Jack Ingram placed 3rd in the Hammer Throw (50.81m) and 17th in Shot Put (13.16m), while teammates Miles Kidwell (13.09m) and Phil Phillips (12.45m) also competed in the Shot Put finals.
- Women’s Highlights
- Dakota Johnson surged to a 4th place finish in the Women’s 800 Meter Run (2:17.61), pacing a trio of Bobcats that also included Aubrey Paes (2:26.69) and Kristina Lesho (2:43.66).
- Johnson’s effort was complemented by solid runs in the 1500 Meter from Paes (5:02.22), Mariam Al-Zoubi (5:07.40), and Lesho (5:35.77).
- Taylor Hess ran a gutsy 19:58.57 to finish in the top 20 of the Women’s 5000 Meter, leading a late surge to close out her race strong.
- In the Women’s 400 Meter Hurdles, Taryn Veltri clocked 1:10.99, while Ayanna Woods took 6th place in the 100 Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.58.
- In the women’s distance events, Leigha Hall (41:35.73), Madison Looker (46:24.55), and Lindsey Dillon (11:55.83 in steeplechase) provided consistent representation across the 10,000m and 3000m steeple finals.
- Clover Stamat also competed in the 100 Meter Dash prelims, finishing in 13.71 seconds.
