Wesleyan men drop 20-point decision to Concord, 83-63

ATHENS — The Concord University Mountain Lions completed its season sweep of the West Virginia Wesleyan College men’s basketball team with an 83-63 victory Wednesday in Athens.

Concord’s success centered around its dominance on the boards, outrebounding Wesleyan by a 2-to-1 margin with 47 to the Bobcats’ 23. Two Mountain Lions picked up double-doubles: Rene Diop scored 17 points and had 11 rebounds, and Jevon Laidler added 10 points and yanked down 10 boards. Two additiional Mountain Lions scored in double digits with the game’s high going to J.J. Harper with 23 points (eight rebounds) and Amare Smith with 11 points.

The Bobcats’ leading scorer and sixth in the Mountain East Conference Deiker Padrino scored 22 points on 7-of-16 from the field that included three from beyond the three and 5-of-8 from the charity stripe. Teammate Curtis Litton also went 7-of-16 for 15 points while Alex Mirhosseini dropped 10 points on 4-of-14 from the field.

Wesleyan hosts Glenville State University Saturday, Feb. 17 for a 4 p.m. tipoff. Admission to Rockefeller Center is free.
