BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — West Virginia Wesleyan College and the West Virginia United Methodist Church Foundation are partnering together to launch a new scholarship program for entering students.

The scholarship will provide a one-year $1,500 award for an entering freshman student from each of the nine districts in the West Virginia Conference: Northern, Mon Valley, Potomac Highlands, Little Kanawha, Wesleyan, Western, Midland South, Greenbrier, and Southern.

The eligibility requirements include:

An entering West Virginia Wesleyan College freshman with demonstrated financial need,
A confirmed member of The United Methodist Church, and
A minimum high school grade point average of 3.25.

Each candidate must complete a scholarship application.

City police academy fills up as chief looks to rebuild volunteer corps

Buckhannon’s revived Youth Police Academy is full, with 24 kids ages 11–16 signed up for the hands-on July 13–17 program featuring K9 demos and mock crime scenes. The BPD is also calling for volunteers to join VIPS to assist the department in various ways.

Harrison County woman sentenced for falsifying VA medical records to steal disability benefits and erase $242K in student loans

A Bridgeport, West Virginia, physician assistant was sentenced to 12 months in federal prison for falsifying VA medical records to steal disability benefits and wipe out $242,528 in federal student loans. Christina Nolte was also ordered to pay $355,179.13 in restitution.
