W.Va. brewer to release new craft beer at Pipestem Resort State Park

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company will release its newest craft beer at 11 a.m. May 1 at Pipestem Resort State Park. The event will take place at the resort’s Mountain Creek Lodge.

Pipestem Resort will showcase and include on the restaurant menus some of West Virginia’s best beers, according to Park Superintendent Brett McMillion.

“Pipestem continues to add West Virginia products to its food and beverage services,” he said.

A seasonal variety, Sambrinus Black Wit is a light-bodied beer with hints of clove, orange peel and black currants, according to Samuel Walker-Matthew, general manager of the Maxwelton business. The company sources its un-malted wheat from Hillsboro.

In addition to Greenbrier Brewing’s new seasonal, three of the brewery’s flagship beers will also be available, including Devil Anse IPA, Zona’s Revenge Witbier and Ole Ran’l Pilsner.

The Sambrinus Black Wit release event includes live music and a ceremonial keg tapping. An opportunity to meet the brewer and chefs will be on hand. Special food pairings are planned for individuals planning to have lunch or dinner at the iconic river-side lodge. The event is open to the public with a minimal cover charge for refreshments.

Pipestem’s Mountain Creek Lodge is accessible by aerial tramway with entry at Canyon Rim Center which has a West Virginia artisans gift shop. The tram transports visitors to the 30-room lodge and Mountain Creek restaurant in the gorge paralleling the Bluestone River. Visitors to Mountain Creek on May 1 will receive tram passes for the return to Canyon Rim complex.
