BLUEFIELD – The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team continued their winning streak winning all four outings in the Bluefield State Big Blue Classic on Friday and Saturday.
Salem University: 3-0
They would first face Salem University again, after sweeping the Tigers at home Sept. 10th. Wesleyan swept Salem again for their first match. Olivia Albrecht led Wesleyan in kills with 14, followed by Bhrooke Axe with sevn. Axe leads the Lady Bobcats in kills with 98 followed by Emily Denision with 88. Against Salem, Denison led the team with three blocks. Alexis Moeschler collected 10 digs on the back line for the Lady Bobcats. Setter Jalynn West tallied 32 assists along with three aces.
Lees-McRae College: 3-2
This match went to five sets with Wesleyan winning set five, 15-13 in a close finish. Alauna Wilson recorded the final kill in the fifth set to propel the Lady Bobcats to their second victory of the tournament. Lees-McRae won the first set, but Wesleyan came back to win sets two and three. Alauna Wilson led the offensive with 15 kills followed by Bhrooke Axe with 11 kills. Alexis Moeschler tallied for 23 digs followed by Jalynn West with 14, and Emily Denison with 13. Sydney Workman led the Lady Bobcats in this match in aces with three.
Erskine College: 3-2
This match showcased a back and forth effort by both teams. Wesleyan won set one, 25-17, but Erskine won set two and each team would alternate winning sets till Wesleyan would come out on top, winning set five, 15-5. Alauna Wilson led with 17 kills followed by Bhrooke Axe and Emily Dension with 11 kills each. Alexis Moeschler had a performance with eight serving aces and 21 digs defensively. Setter Jalynn West collected 52 total assists, 11 digs, and one block assist. Set five ended with Alauna Wilson and Bhrooke Axe getting block assists on an Erskine attack attempt.
Shorter University: 3-1
Wesleyan defeated Shorter University taking sets one, two and four to finish at a perfect 4-0 on the weekend. Alauna Wilson would lead again in total kills with 14, followed by Bhrooke Axe and Olivia Albrecht with 10 kills each. Faith Grafton tledhe match with three serving aces for the Lady Bobcats and 21 digs defensively. Bhrooke Axe tallied five blocks along with Emily Deniosn and setter, Jalynn West who collected four blocks each.
The volleyball team will travel to Concord University for another four-game tournament starting Friday, Sept. 20 against Bluefield State University at 11 a.m.
