Upshur County school system releases update on COVID-19 response

Families, Students, Staff of Upshur County Schools:

Upshur County Schools and the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department continue to work together to address the ongoing COVID response.

We want to keep our families informed regarding the cases in schools. We are currently at a total of four students: One at Buckhannon Academy Elementary School, one full time remote student, one at Fred Eberle Technical Center and one at French Creek Elementary School. We also have five staff persons who have tested positive, for a total of nine staff and students in Upshur County Schools.

Again, the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department works closely with Upshur County Schools to identify persons who have had close contact with them including students, staff, family members and friends. If there is a chance you may have been exposed and the health department can trace that activity to you, you will be notified. Please understand that contact tracing and testing take time.

Based on our current numbers in Upshur County, there is a possibility that Upshur County Schools will remain Orange for the upcoming week on the West Virginia Department of Education School Alert System map. Orange would require that we maintain fully remote learning in Upshur County Schools. All faculty, staff and administration will continue to report to work during the time we are in Orange status. They will be delivering instruction, communicating with their students and monitoring student progress.

Our staff will also be available to answer any questions parents might have. For questions about technology, call 304-472-5480 ext. 2025, 2026, 2027 if your child is in Elementary School.  For Middle School tech questions use ext. 3304 and for High School tech questions use ext. 5014 or email your questions to tech@upshurschools.com

To keep our schools open to our children, it will take our entire community following established COVID-19 protocol including hand washing, facial covering use, social distancing, and proper hygiene. We appreciate your on-going support and commitment to the health of Upshur County. Our students, with the help and guidance of all caring adults in their lives, will come out of this “Upshur Strong!”
