Upshur County Recreation Complex committee invites public to inaugural Turkey Trot 5K

BUCKHANNON — Trot first, eat turkey later!

The Upshur County Recreation Complex fundraising committee is inviting the Buckhannon-Upshur community to participate in the UCRC Inaugural Turkey Trot 5K, which is slated for Thursday, Nov. 28, Thanksgiving Day.

This year, there’s no need to travel to participate in the tradition of running a 3.1-mile race on Thanksgiving morning, according to Mitchell Shaw, one of the event’s organizers.

Runners may pre-register for the race for $25 here through Friday, Nov. 22. Online registration will no longer be available after that date.

The race steps off at 9 a.m. sharp, and same-day registration will take place at Almost Heaven CrossFit, 6 Trader’s Alley, in Buckhannon from 8 to 8:45 a.m. An informational briefing on the race will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m.

“The Upshur County Recreation Complex committee invites you to join us for Buckhannon’s Inaugural Turkey Trot 5k,” Shaw said. “Along with the help of Almost Heaven Crossfit and their Almost Heaven Community Foundation volunteers, we’re hosting a fun run through the streets of Buckhannon to support the dream of the late Shawn Tucker to bring an amazing recreational facility to Upshur County. Please join us Thanksgiving morning!”
