The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Monday that 10,543 cases of COVID-19 are currently active in the Mountain State. That’s an increase of 1,737 since the last report.
Locally, COVID-19 cases are active in Upshur (228), Barbour (182), Lewis (118), Randolph (172) and Webster (34) counties. In Upshur County, that’s an increase of 21 active cases in the last 24 hours.
Eight additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 49-year old female from Wayne County, a 67-year old female from Putnam County, a 68-year old male from Upshur County, a 70-year old male from Raleigh County, a 53-year old male from Preston County, an 88-year old male from Lincoln County, an 84-year old female from Logan County, and a 62-year old female from Logan County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) reports as of August 23, 2021, there have been 3,297,722 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 180,019 total cases and 3,016 deaths,” according to a press release.
The daily percent positive was 11.44%.
A total of 901,370 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said. That’s about 50% of the state.
