BUCKHANNON — The Upshur County Democratic Women have announced that Vice President Anne Chopyak was awarded the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women’s Camelot Award. The award was conferred Saturday, September 12 during the 62nd annual meeting of the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women in Beckley.

The Camelot Award was created by the WVFDW in 2002 to pay tribute to women who have been outstanding members in their local club. It was the idea of the late Joyce Creel of the Jackson County Democratic Women. In recognizing the recipient of the award, the federation remembers President and Mrs. Kennedy in the days of Camelot for the glamour and excitement they brought to the Democratic Party.

The recipient should personify the objectives of the West Virginia Federation of Democratic Women, which unites county Democratic Women’s clubs for the success of the Democratic Party by stimulating interest and participation in government affairs; promoting the fundamental principles for which the Democratic Party traditionally and historically stands; and by developing leadership and promoting harmony within the party ranks.

Chopyak has always been willing to step up to take on responsibilities when others are unable to do so, the club said. She is aware of what is happening in state government and keeps abreast of current issues the Legislature is addressing, and she maintains a steady presence in the club. She has also been instrumental in helping guide other UCDW members to embrace and thrive in leadership roles within the group and local community.

Chopyak is visible in the community, donating her time to Really, Really Free Market helping prepare free meals, the Community Baby Shower and Festival Friday, where she represents the Upshur County Democratic Women. She is also a member of the Friends of Upshur County Public Library.
