Two more Upshur County residents die from COVID-19, DHHR says

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Wednesday that two more Upshur County residents have died from COVID-19, a 78-year old female and 67-year-old female, bringing the county’s death toll to 25.

The news came as the state reported 27 new deaths Wednesday. Although statistically the pandemic has lessened over the past month, more than 100 West Virginians are still dying from the virus every week.

The DHHR reported 535 new cases of COVID-19 in the Mountain State on Wednesday.

Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (11), Barbour (3), Lewis (3), Randolph (15) and Webster (1) counties.

A total of 172 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR.

The new deaths included:

  • a 73-year old male from Marion County,
  • a 76-year old male from Mingo County,
  • a 93-year old male from Putnam County,
  • a 70-year old male from Kanawha County,
  • a 59-year old female from Berkeley County,
  • a 62-year old female from Kanawha County,
  • a 91-year old male from Kanawha County,
  • a 74-year old male from Raleigh County,
  • an 86-year old female from Mingo County,
  • an 81-year old male from Mingo County,
  • a 62-year old male from Raleigh County,
  • a 76-year old female from McDowell County,
  • a 70-year old male from Kanawha County,
  • a 70-year old male from Preston County,
  • a 78-year old female from Upshur County,
  • a 70-year old male from Berkeley County,
  • a 76-year old female from Jefferson County,
  • a 78-year old male from Raleigh County,
  • a 79-year old female from Preston County,
  • a 71-year old female from Raleigh County,
  • an 80-year old female from Cabell County,
  • a 71-year old male from Wood County,
  • a 72-year old male from Monroe County,
  • a 93-year old male from Wood County,
  • a 67-year old female from Upshur County,
  • a 77-year old female from Taylor County,
  • a 59-year old female from Marion County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of February 3, 2021, there have been 1,943,848 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 122,470 total cases and 2,058 total deaths,” according to a press release.

About 19,212 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 101,200 people have recovered and 2,058 have died. The daily percent positive was 5.91%.

A total of 73,524 people have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in West Virginia, meaning they have received both doses of the vaccine, the DHHR said.
