Two deaths, 22 new COVID-19 cases reported in West Virginia on Tuesday

The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 22 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

Two additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 88-year old female from Lewis County and a 66-year old female from Clay County.

Locally, Barbour and Randolph counties reported two new cases each on Tuesday.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m. on June 23, 2020, there have been 154,881 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 2,593 total cases and 92 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Tuesday in Barbour, Berkeley, Cabell, Mercer, Mineral, Monongalia, Ohio, Preston, Randolph, Tucker, Wayne and Wood counties.

About 688 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 1,813 people have recovered and 92 have died, a mortality rate of about 4.8 percent.
