MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The University of Charleston won its fifth consecutive Mountain East Conference Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles finished with 168 points across 21 events, out-pacing league newcomer Point Park, which had 126.5 points.

West Virginia Wesleyan, West Liberty, and West Virginia State rounded out the top five after the three-day event at the Track & Field Complex at Mylan Park.

The MEC also handed out five individual awards. The 2025 Most Valuable Performer was Point Park’s Akeem Mustapha, who also collected the Field Athlete of the Year honor. His teammate, Kamar Sutherland, was named Freshman of the Year. All three awards are based on total points accumulated during the championship.

Two other awards were decided by a vote of the league’s head coaches. West Liberty junior Hunter Patterson was named the 2025 Track Athlete of the Year, and UC head coach Nick Bias picked up Coach of the Year honors.

The MEC determines all-conference recognition based on the top three finishers in every event, with the champion taking All-MEC first team, the runner-up earning second team honors, and the third-place finisher gets named honorable mention.
