BUCKHANNON – My Buckhannon is proud to present another edition of the Hank Ellis All-Stars. Each week, we will select a female and male athlete at Buckhannon-Upshur who has had an exemplary week on the basketball court, the wrestling mat, or the swimming pool.

This week we are changing our usual format with our Hank Ellis All-Stars and picking four student-athletes for the week of Feb. 5 – Feb. 11. This week, we recognize all three B-U Big 10 Conference champions on the male side in Ian Cornett, Liam Garcia and Oscar Blonn, and on the female side, we honor wrestler Maya Garcia.

Cornett is a junior while Garcia and Blonn are seniors on the wrestling team. Last Saturday in the Big 10 Conference championships that B-U hosted, Cornett won the 113-pound division pinning a returning state finalist in the title bout, Liam Garcia took first in the 120-pound division winning his second Big 10 title and Oscar Blonn was the champion in the 215-pound division in a dominant showing.

Maya Garcia, a sophomore, had the highest placement ever for a B-U female wrestler at the Big 10 Championships placing sixth in the 126-pound division. (Brittany Woodall finished third when the Bucs were in the NCAC).

Congratulations to Cornett, Garcia, Blonn and Garcia as our weekly winners of the Hank Ellis All-Stars honor.
