The Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur partnered with WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital to host a blood drive and food donation drive on Friday, August 15 at the Event Center at Brushy Fork in Buckhannon. The blood drive was managed by Vitalant, the official blood supplier for both St. Joseph’s Hospital and United Hospital Center.
Twenty-nine units of blood were collected exceeding the Hospital’s goal. The donation saw nine first-time donors and the amount of blood collected saved 87 lives. Blood donations are critical to saving lives and supporting many medical treatments. There is always a constant need for blood donors in order to ensure the patients in our community and beyond have access to this life saving resource.
The next blood drive in Buckhannon is scheduled for Monday, November 10.
The Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur is dedicated to its mission of “Service Above Self,” addressing many needs in our community. For more information about the club, visit them at Facebook.com/BURotary.
