Parks & Recreation Advisory Board Meeting – The January meeting of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board will not be held.  The next meeting for the Board will be February 28, 2024, at 6:00 pm in Council Chambers.

Sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice – As a reminder to all residents, per Ordinance # 193, abutting property owners are responsible for sidewalk maintenance, including removal and clearing of all snow and ice that accumulates on sidewalks abutting or adjoining their premises.   As always, when clearing the sidewalks of snow, ice, leaves, or debris, be sure to properly dispose of the debris.  Do not sweep it into the gutter or street.

Waste pickup for customers of the City Waste Department The normal collection schedule will be observed this week.

Job Openings with the City of Buckhannon

Clerical Position -The City of Buckhannon is currently accepting applications for one clerical position. The successful applicant(s) must be able to lift 50 pounds and walk in inclement weather. Office duties include data entry, answering phones, filing, assisting customers, and general office duties.

Hourly rate starting at $13.00 per hour with benefits. This is dependent on skills. Candidates having additional knowledge of CADD or GIS software is an advantage.

Applicant must be 18 or older with a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Applicants will be subject to skills testing, drug screening, and a background check.

Pipe Layer/Laborer -The City of Buckhannon Sanitary Department is accepting applications until February 2, 2024, for the position of a full-time pipe layer/laborer in the Buckhannon Sanitary/Stormwater Department.  Candidates must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid WV Class A or Class B commercial driver’s license.
  • Possess a High School diploma or equivalent.
  •  Be in good physical condition.  This job includes, but is not limited to lifting between 50-100 lbs. regularly.  
  • Willing to work in confined spaces and in inclement weather

Eligible candidates will be subject to a background check and drug test.  Hourly rate starts at $13.00 per hour depending on education, skills, and qualifications.
