Stephenson Chosen for Full Scholarship to Davis & Elkins College

ELKINS – Robert Stephenson of Cooper City, Florida, has been chosen to receive a full, four-year scholarship to Davis & Elkins College. A December graduate of Cooper City High School, Stephenson was selected from a group of 46 high achieving high school seniors participating in Senator Leadership & Scholarship Day on the College campus.

Although Stephenson will begin classes in the spring 2020 semester, his scholarship will go into effect with the fall 2020 semester.

“I am so thankful to D&E for giving me this opportunity,” Stephenson said. “This scholarship means so much to me and I am going to make the very most of it.”

Students vying for the scholarship submitted essays and participated in interviews with a panel made up of a Davis & Elkins alumnus or alumna, a current student and a faculty member. Awards amounts range from full tuition, plus room and board, to $500.

To be eligible to compete, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and received acceptance to attend Davis & Elkins. Students were also required to submit a list of outstanding leadership honors or awards they have received and describe three skills that have strengthened them as a leader. The essay of no more than 500 words consisted of a personal statement outlining the student’s interests, life experiences, goals and commitment to leadership.

Stephenson is the nephew of D&E alumna Dr. Amy Ouellette ’96 and Dave Duffy of Cooper City, Florida. He plans to study nursing.

During his high school career, Stephenson was a member of the debate team. Also participating in athletics, he was captain of the lacrosse team and a member of the cross-country team.
