Stephen Douglas Gilbert, 56, of Buckhannon, passed away in the comfort of his home on Monday, March 7, 2022.

He was born in Naples, Florida, on June 30, 1965 to Jerrold Gilbert and Barbara Otto. Jerrold currently resides in Aurora, Colorado with his wife, Linda; Barbara currently resides in Marietta, Georgia.

On September 15, 1999, Stephen married the love of his life, Robert (“Bobby”) Matthew Simons; at the time of his passing, Steve and Bobby shared 22 years of marriage.

In addition to his parents and husband, Stephen leaves behind three brothers: Jeff Gilbert of Costa Rica, Greg Gilbert and wife, Elina, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Kevin Otto and wife, Roni, of Marietta, Georgia; one step-brother, Doug Gilbert of Aurora, Colorado; and one niece, Ashlyn Gilbert, and one nephew, Felix Cipher both of Colorado. He was preceded in death by one sister-in-law, Lisa Gilbert.

Stephen worked as a self-employed contractor in Atlanta, Georgia for over 30 years. His favorite pastimes included: dancing, playing guitar, and operating/playing with heavy equipment. He enjoyed helping people when and where he could.

Stephen’s request for Cremation has been honored and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
