Softball Lady ‘Cats drop road doubleheader to Notre Dame

SOUTH EUCLID (Ohio) — The West Virginia Wesleyan softball team traveled to Notre Dame of Ohio for a doubleheader on Thursday. They fell in both games as the offense seemed to be a struggle dropping game one by a 4-1 score and game two by a 6-5 score.

Game 1

Notre Dame scored first in the first inning with a RBI ground out to make it 1-0. For Wesleyan, Sydney Leadbetter hit a one-run single up the middle to bring Gracey Arnold around to score to tie it up. Notre Dame answered in the bottom second with a one-run double. Two more runs came to score in the sixth inning for Notre Dame as two RBI singles made it 4-1. Kendall Stoffel took the loss pitching 5 1/3 innings allowing six hits and four earned runs. Offensively, Andie Dizon and Kendall Stoffel both went 2-3 at the plate.

Game 2

Game two was a close one run game as both offenses went back and forth scoring runs. Notre Dame hit a one-run single in the first inning and hit a solo home run to get out front 2-0. Wesleyan had a big fifth inning bringing in four runs to take the lead. Sydney Leadbetter hit a one-run single to right field followed by Courtney Fizer singling to center bringing in Jenna Gomez. With runners at second and third base, Alyssa Rohr hit a bunt to the infield collecting a single and a RBI to give the Lady Bobcats the lead at 3-2. Andie Dizon singled to right field to make it 4-2. Notre Dame came back and score two in the fifth inning and one more run in the sixth to regain the lead, at 6-4. In the seventh, the Lady Bobcats fought back with a one0run double from Gracey Arnold to make it a one run game, but it proved to not be enough.
