Softball Lady Bucs battle but fall to Parkersburg South and Grafton

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc softball team suffered a pair of tough losses Saturday in a pair of home games against Parkersburg South and Grafton.

The Lady Bucs and Patriots went 10 innings before the Lady Bucs fell by a 5-4 score and they followed that loss with a 9-7 setback to Grafton.

Against Parkersburg South, the Lady Bucs took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first behind a solo home run from Shelby McDaniels.

B-U took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth when Robin Ball walked and later scored on a passed ball.

Parkersburg South finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth with a four-run outburst taking a 4-2 lead.

Robin Ball and Kailey Hart each had one-run singles for the Lady Bucs in the bottom of the sixth inning tying the game at 4-4.

The game went all the way to the 10th inning to decide a winner as Parkersburg South chased across the winning run in the extra frame.

The Lady Bucs managed just four hits in the loss, getting one each from McDaniels, Ball, Meghan Bailey and Hart.

Jansen Kimble pitched all 10 innings for the Lady Bucs and gave up just one earned run on eight hits while fanning four.

In their game with Grafton, B-U took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a one-run single by Bailey.

Grafton scored four runs in the top of the second for a 4-1 lead but the Lady Bucs answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third when Brooklyn Robinson hit a one-run double and later scored on a passed ball making it a 4-3 contest.

B-U tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fourth when Taylor Spratt started the frame with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Katarah Linger

Grafton retook the lead in the top of the fifth with a run but the Lady Bucs matched that when Bailey hit a one-run single making it a 5-5 contest.

Grafton took the lead back with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth and added two more in the top of the seventh for a 9-5 lead.

The Lady Bucs scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh when Spratt hit a one-run single and Kailey Hart hit a sacrifice fly, but B-U couldn’t overcome their four-run deficit.

B-U had nine hits in the setback with Bailey and Spratt each getting three.

McDaniels suffered the loss in the circle for Buckhannon-Upshur. She went six innings and gave up just two earned runs while fanning two.

The Lady Bucs (0-3) were scheduled to play Preston on Tuesday.

They will visit Lincoln Wednesday with the first pitch set for 5 p.m.
