Rough first quarter hurts JV Bucs in 56-49 loss at Elkins

ELKINS – A rough first quarter wound up costing the Buckhannon-Upshur junior varsity Buccaneers in their road contest with the Elkins Tigers Friday night in a 56-49 defeat.

The Bucs fell behind by an 11-3 margin after the first quarter and although they outscored Ekins overall in the final three quarter, were never able to overtake the Tigers.

Damion White had all three points for the Bucs in the first quarter on a free throw and a jumper.

The Bucs got their offense going in the second quarter outscoring the Tigers by a 16-14 margin as Xavier Robinette scored eight, Brody McDaniels three, Jimmie Green and White two and Riel Figueroa one.

That left the Bucs down by a 25-19 score at the break.

B-U dropped the third quarter by a 14-11 margin with McDaniels scoring five points, Robinette four and White two.

B-U found themselves down by a 39-30 score going into the final quarter.

The Bucs won the last quarter but couldn’t overtake the Tigers winning it by a 19-17 count.

In the final quarter for the Bucs, McDaniels had eight points, White six, Robinette three and Jacob Frye two.

Landon Shreve led all scorers for Elkins with 20 points while Devin Hulver added 13.

McDaniels paced the Bucs with 16 points while Robinette contributed 13.

The loss dropped the Bucs to 6-8 on the year.

The Bucs will play again Saturday hosting Woodrow Wilson at 11 a.m.
