BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur has been working to assist the Parish House in their Upshur County Backpack Program.

Members of the club donated needed school supplies for the program and assisted in packing the backpacks for students. The club also made a donation of $300 to the Parish House for the program.

“The backpacks are given to Upshur County students in grades Pre-K through 12th, focusing on families in need,” said Kristi L. Wilkerson, Director of the Parish House. “Last year we began partnering with the Upshur County Schools to help publicize the distribution. Prior to 2019, we averaged 300 to 350 requests; in 2019 we distributed 611 backpacks, and this year, we are planning on 700 backpacks. The items included help the children to be better prepared for school.”

“We as a club are excited to be able to help the Parish House and the students of Upshur County at this time of need,” said Club President Julie Keehner. “Projects of this type truly demonstrate our motto of ‘Service Above Self.'”
