Roger Lee Andrews, Wise and Steadfast Family Man, died at 80.

Roger Lee Andrews, a loving husband, father, and grandfather who was admired for his wisdom, steadfastness, kindness, and resourcefulness, died on April 10, 2023, at his home in Summerville, South Carolina. He was 80 years old. The cause was cancer, which he battled courageously for three years.

Born on November 10, 1942, in Randolph County, West Virginia, to the late Darius Edward Andrews and Opal Marjorie Tuning Andrews, Roger was a man of unwavering commitment and gentle strength. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy, including during the Cuban Missile Crisis blockade, and went on to have a distinguished career as an electrician, earning high respect for his skill and professionalism.

Roger’s wisdom and resourcefulness were evident in his ability to fix almost anything. He had a reputation among his neighbors and family members as the man to call when you needed something repaired. His kindness and steadfastness were qualities that endeared him to those fortunate enough to know him. He was a dedicated family man who enjoyed fishing, cheering on the West Virginia University Mountaineer football and basketball teams, and spending time with his loved ones.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Howard Andrews of Elkins, West Virginia.

His wife of 58 years, Phyllis Marie Bentley Andrews, passed away March 7, 2024.

He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Andrews Finnegan and Debby Andrews Somerville; his sons-in-law, Daniel Alan Finnegan and Robert Gray Somerville; grandchildren, Drew Somerville, Robert James Somerville, and Willa Reese Finnegan; his brother William Andrews and his sister Shirley Andrews Bowman.

A Celebration of Life Memorial for Roger and Phyllis will be held on Monday, March 18th, at 12:00 p.m. at Tennerton United Methodist Church in Buckhannon, WV. The family will receive visitors at 11:00 before the service. With his passing, the world has lost a wise, steadfast, and kind soul who leaves behind a legacy of love, commitment, and service. Roger’s resourcefulness and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
