The Event Center at Brushy Fork was converted into a 'speakeasy' of sorts as attendees of Create Buckhannon's annual elimination dinner competed for best costume during the gala, which was Roaring Twenties-themed. Roaring Twenties roll through Event Center as Create Buckhannon hosts annual dinner

BUCKHANNON — Create Buckhannon hosted its annual elimination dinner Friday night at the Event Center at Brushy Fork.

Aaron Harris auctions off a variety of items during Friday’s dinner.

Each year, the fundraiser supports Festival Fridays and a variety of other community improvement projects. This year’s dinner — themed the “Roaring Twenties” — featured a costume contest.

While some people came in casual attire, others opted to dress the part of flappers from the Roaring Twenties. Pictured, from left, are Elissa Mills and Michelle Caynor.

Karen Leigh, who collected $1,000, was the evening’s big winner. Although the amount raised is still yet to be determined, Create member Melodie Stemple said the dinner usually grosses about $5,800.

Heather Anderson twirls, showing off her attire during the evening’s costume contest portion.
‘I moustache you a question’ — Dusty Zickefoose, at left, and Scott Preston were also finalists in the men’s costume contest.
