Retha Arlene Hinkle Casto

Retha Arlene Hinkle Casto, 99, of Buckhannon and previously of Hacker Valley, passed away after an extended illness on Friday, May 26, 2023, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

She was born in Wheeler on October 8, 1923, a daughter of the late Atha Albert Hinkle and Lena Gay Berry Hinkle.

On March 25, 1944, Retha married her one true love, Arthur “Jake” Franklin Casto. They treasured one another for nearly 56 years before Jake’s passing on February 13, 2000. They have now been reunited to share eternity.

In addition to her parents and husband, Retha was preceded in death by one son, Ray Artley Casto; one son-in-law, David Detamore; three brothers: Robert Orvan Hinkle and wife, Rella, Roy Arland Hinkle, and Ronald Atha Hinkle and wife, Pixie; and one sister, Alice Magdalene Wilson and husband, Ralph.

Forever cherishing their memories of Retha are two children: Arlos Franklin Casto and wife, Luisa, of Marietta, OH, and Norma Arlene Detamore of Buckhannon; three grandchildren: Arlos Casto Jr. and wife, Tammy, David Casto and wife, Pamela, and Tracy Weaver and husband, Jamie; four great-grandchildren: Jennifer and Jonathan Casto, and Alyssa and Brock Dunn; one brother, Adrian “Arlos” Hinkle; and several nieces and nephews.

Retha loved her role of homemaker and spent her days caring for her home and family. In her later years, Retha enjoyed working outside gardening and tending to her flowers. She also liked to feed and watch her hummingbirds. Retha was a member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Hacker Valley and read her Bible frequently. She also liked working word search puzzles. Retha’s loving and hardworking nature will be missed by all who knew her.

Family and friends will gather for Visitation at Clutter Funeral and Cremation located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Funeral Services will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the Clutter Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Burns officiating. Interment will follow at the Radabaugh Cemetery in Hacker Valley.
