BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation has provided funding for the purchase of new exercise equipment for the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation program at WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital, helping ensure patients continue to have access to high-quality rehabilitation services close to home.
The Foundation’s donation funded the purchase of an incline elliptical trainer and a multifunctional resistance training system, replacing aging equipment used within the department. The new BowFlex equipment will enhance rehabilitation opportunities for patients recovering from heart and lung conditions by providing additional options for strength training, cardiovascular exercise and overall physical conditioning.
St. Joseph’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation program serves approximately 4,000 patient visits annually, helping individuals recover from heart attacks, cardiac procedures, chronic respiratory diseases and other conditions through supervised exercise, education and support.
“Supporting the needs of our patients is at the heart of the Foundation’s mission,” said Paula Cutright, Director of the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation. “We are proud to provide funding for equipment that will directly impact patient care and help individuals on their journey to improved health and wellness. Investments like these are possible because of the generosity of those who support the Foundation and our hospital.”
The new equipment allows rehabilitation staff to continue offering safe, effective and personalized exercise programs tailored to each patient’s individual needs and abilities. By replacing equipment that had reached the end of its useful life, the Foundation’s contribution helps ensure patients have access to modern tools designed to support recovery and improve quality of life.
“Our cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients come to us with a wide range of needs and abilities,” said Julie Neff, Director of Respiratory Services at WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital. “Having updated equipment allows us to provide more individualized exercise options while ensuring patients have access to safe, effective rehabilitation tools that support their recovery and long-term health goals. We are extremely grateful to the Foundation for helping make this investment possible.”
