Tuesday, August 4
- Curbside recycling pickup begins at 6 a.m. — Pickup occurs within Buckhannon city limits. You can find information about recycling on the city’s website, at City Hall or by calling the Recycling Center or Upshur County Solid Waste Authority at (304) 472-4443.
Thursday, August 6
- Waste Board meeting, 7:30-8:30 a.m. — Attend in person or join virtually, or call (669) 224-3412 and use access code 382-929-125.

- National Night Out for August 4 has been canceled due to the flood recovery efforts.
- The City Council meeting for August 6 has been canceled due to a conflict with the WVML Conference.
- Festival Friday in Jawbone Park on August 7 has been canceled due to the temporary closure of Jawbone Park and flood recovery efforts.
- The WV Largest Yard Sale for August 7-8 has been canceled due to flood recovery efforts.
- Debris removal update: Residents are reminded to place flood-damaged debris at the curb as soon as possible as the West Virginia Army National Guard is making its final passes throughout the city and county. Items should be staged at the edge of the right of way in a manner that does not block roadways, sidewalks or drainage paths. If your debris has not yet been collected — or if your location was accidentally missed — please request assistance so arrangements can be made. Only one request is necessary.
- Buckhannon is waiving all building and wiring permit fees for verified flood-related repair and restoration work. Permits will still be required to ensure safety and compliance, but any project confirmed as flood-related will receive a full fee waiver. Building Code Enforcement Officer Vincent Smith will inspect each project to verify eligibility.
- Flood relief financial donation options: The City of Buckhannon and the Upshur County Commission have identified two official organizations for those wishing to make financial contributions to support local flood recovery efforts: Rotary Club of Buckhannon Upshur Foundation — Contribute online. Tygart Valley United Way — Contribute online.
- Trash can placement: Trash cans must be hidden from public view as much as possible during the week; place them at the curb the night before collection and return them within 24 hours after collection.
- Utility bill payments: Pay utility bills online through Municipal Online Payments or by phone at 1-866-933-4026. Setting up an account allows you to monitor your consumption.
- Report repairs or concerns: To report issues such as potholes or damaged signs, call City Hall during business hours to submit a work order or use the city’s Report a Concern tool.
