BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Local officials are encouraging residents to take mold remediation seriously as cleanup continues across Upshur County. Flood survivors often feel pressure to return to normalcy quickly, but failing to properly address mold can lead to long-term health and structural problems.
Residents are encouraged to review the following mold remediation resources:
- The EPA’s “Mold Remediation in Schools and Commercial Buildings,” available in a printable version at EPA.gov. Although designed for larger facilities, the principles apply to homes and small businesses.
- The National Environmental Health Association’s Indoor Mold Concerns, a clear, accessible resource for homeowners navigating mold issues after flooding.
City and county officials emphasize that proper drying, cleaning and removal of contaminated materials is essential to prevent future hazards.
The guidance was issued jointly by the City of Buckhannon, the Upshur County Commission and the Upshur County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
