The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Thursday that 1,233 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.
Locally, new cases were reported in Upshur (4), Barbour (3), Lewis (3), Randolph (15) and Webster (5) counties.
A total of 79 cases are currently active in Upshur County, according to the DHHR, the lowest level since November 17. Despite the drop, the county’s infection rate remains within the highest “red alert” level.
Thursday’s update:
- Added one probable case to Dec. 3
- Removed one probable case and added one confirmed case to Dec. 6
- Removed one probable case and added one confirmed case to Dec. 7
- Removed one probable case and three confirmed cases from Dec. 8
- Added one probable case and six confirmed cases to Dec. 9
Twenty additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – a 71-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 75-year old male from Putnam County, a 92-year old female from Greenbrier County, a 90-year old female from Preston County, a 77-year old male from Wood County, an 80-year old male from Mineral County, a 77-year old male from Mineral County, a 78-year old male from Brooke County, an 86-year old male from Wood County, a 75-year old male from Kanawha County, an 80-year old male from Kanawha County, a 72-year old female from Boone County, an 83-year old male from Kanawha County, an 86-year old female from Putnam County, a 42-year old male from Raleigh County, an 87-year old female from Jackson County, a 64-year old male from Cabell County, a 70-year old male from Cabell County, a 38-year old female from Cabell County, and a 59-year old male from Hancock County.
“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of December 10, 2020, there have been 1,265,329 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 59,695 total cases and 921 deaths,” according to a press release.
About 20,160 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 38,614 people have recovered and 921 have died. The daily percent positive was 6.24%.
