The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced Tuesday that 213 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State, including one in Upshur County, one in Randolph County and two in Barbour County.

Five additional deaths have been attributed to the disease, according to the DHHR – an 89-year old male from Harrison County, a 50-year old female from Fayette County, a 66-year old male from Mercer County, an 82-year old female from Kanawha County, and a 72-year old male from Kanawha County.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m., September 22, 2020, there have been 522,329 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 14,384 total cases and 317 deaths,” according to a press release.

The current DHHR tally does not match that being reported by the Upshur-Buckhannon Health Department, because the state data does not include three cases reported locally during the week of Sept. 14.

New cases were reported Tuesday in Barbour, Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Clay, Fayette, Gilmer, Hampshire, Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mason, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Morgan, Nicholas, Ohio, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Summers, Taylor, Tucker, Upshur, Wayne, Wetzel, Wirt, Wood and Wyoming counties.
