Mary Frances Winans

Mary Frances Winans, age 83, of Bailey Ridge, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, June 30, 2026. She was born in Buckhannon on July 10, 1942, a daughter of the late George Robert and Lora Blanche Bailey Steele.

She was united in marriage on September 28, 1991, to William C. “Bill” Winans, who preceded her in death on August 5, 2018. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was also preceded in death by one nephew, Robert Samuel Smith.

Surviving are a special niece, who Mary cared for as a daughter, Michele and husband David Mills of Buckhannon; niece, Brittany Nicole Smith; five great nieces (“granddaughters”): Caitlin and husband Brian Smith, Courtney and husband Shay Woody, both of Buckhannon, Cassie and husband Bryce Thibodeaux of Fairmont, and Alex Weimer and Maggie Lombardo; four great-great nieces and nephews (“great grandchildren”): Elijah Monnett, Dawson Smith, Lilly Woody, and Alora Woody; sister-in-law, Betty and husband James Lombardo of Buckhannon; and two brothers-in-law: Glenn Bradford and wife Suzanne Winans of South Carolina and Robert Lee and wife Jennifer Winans of Hodgesville.

Mary was retired after forty-five years of faithful service at Chase Bank where she made many friends, never meeting a stranger. Her impeccable lawn and flower and vegetable gardens were the result of hours upon hours of her hard work. She was also a devoted member of the Tennerton United Methodist Church.

A special thank you is extended by the family to the Tennerton United Methodist Church for their love and kindness to Mary over the years and also to WVU Hospice Care for their special care during her illness.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM, when a funeral service will begin in the chapel with Pastor Frank Spears officiating. Private interment will be made in the Bailey Cemetery.
