Charles Edward “Chuck” Reed

Charles Edward “Chuck” Reed, age 79, of the Waterloo Road, French Creek, died Sunday, June 28, 2026, at the Davis Medical Center in Elkins, West Virginia. He was born at Tenmile, West Virginia, on August 27, 1946, a son of the late Henry Elsworth and Frances R. Koon Reed.

On August 19, 1966, he was united in marriage to Betty Lou Bennett Reed, who preceded him in death on May 7, 2019.

He is survived by one daughter, Janice Riesterer and boyfriend, Antonio Chavarria of Sandusky, Ohio; six grandchildren: Curtis (Amanda) Reed, Kyle (Victoria) Reed, Cody (Shelley Robinson) Reed, Katrina (Eduardo Vasquez) Reed, Ayden Riesterer, and Tierra Riesterer; ten great-grandchildren: Callyn, Keaton, Noah, Millie, Melany, Dominic, Zola, Logan, Kyla, and Lola; one brother, Jerry Reed of Tallmansville; two step-sisters: Dorothy Rycroft of Elkins and Sharon Quick of Buckhannon; three sisters-in-law: Jewell Campbell, Barbara Reed, and Helen Hall; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one son, Nick Wayne Reed; eight brothers: Harold (Leona) Reed, Larry Reed, Donald (Mary) Reed, Junior Reed, Carl Reed, Bob (Kathryn) Reed, Tom Reed, and Bill Reed; two sisters: Mildred Blagg and Jean (A.D.) Ward; stepmother, Myrtle Reed; a stepbrother, David Wilt; and a sister-in-law, Loretta Reed.

Mr. Reed retired from Ford Motor Company in 1992, after many years of hard work and dedication. He and the love of his life, Betty, then moved back to French Creek to build their dream log cabin and to enjoy fishing, hunting, and four-wheeling in the West Virginia hills, and to play countless games of cards. Charles, or “Chuck” as many knew him, was an instant friend to anyone he met and will be remembered for his selflessness and “give you the shirt off his back” spirit of giving.

The family will receive friends at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel from 5–7:00 PM on Thursday, July 2, 2026. The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. J. Edward McDaniels officiating. Interment will follow at the Big Bend Cemetery.
