Lady Bucs never had a chance to get going in 63-37 loss to Class AAA No. 4 Lewis County

WESTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs simply got blitzed in the first half by the Class AAA No. 4 Lewis County Minutemaids in a 63-37 loss Tuesday night in Big 10 Conference action.

The Lady Bucs watched Lewis County throw in six three-pointers while committing 15 turnovers in the first half.

Lewis County raced out to a 20-4 lead late in the first quarter and were never challenged by the Lady Bucs.

“We simply didn’t come close to meeting their intensity,” said Buckhannon-Upshur coach Chad Wilfong.”

B-U’s only lead was in the opening seconds after Kyndal Davis scored on a putback making it 2-0.
Lewis County scored seven straight until Alyssa Abel dropped in two free throws to cut it to a 7-4 game.

Lewis County started a 13-0 run with three straight three-pointers for their 20-4 lead.

The Lady Bucs were down by a 25-9 margin going into the second quarter.

Buckhannon-Upshur managed just two field goals in the second quarter, lay-ups from Casadie Lahman and Davis.

They went into the break down 37-13.

B-U put in just two more field goals in the third quarter, jumpers from Brooklyn Smith and Harley Dean, and they entered the final period down by a 50-17 count.

Down 55-19, the Lady Bucs went on a 7-0 run capped off by a baseline jumper from Abel that made it a 55-26 contest.

B-U ended the game on an 11-8 run.

Lewis County was led by Kenna Maxwell who had a game-high 22 points and Payten Goodwin who added 14 points.

Lewis County improved to 16-3 overall and 8-2 in the Big 10 Conference.

Abel paced the Lady Bucs with 12 points while Dean contributed 10.

The loss dropped the Lady Bucs to 3-13 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

They will be back in action Thursday hosting Elkins at 7:30 p.m.
