ATHENS — The West Virginia Wesleyan College women’s soccer team gave up six goals for the second consecutive match in a 6-1 loss on the road to Concord University, Wednesday.
Wesleyan’s lone goal came in the 33rd minute when Kameron Bonneau found herself one-on-one with Concord keeper Gabby Griffith. Bonneau took the shot but it was blocked right back to her by Griffith. A second strike was also saved but the hard strike bounced off Griffith’s hands. On her third attempt, Bonneau found the open space to get the Bobcats within two goals at 3-1. The two saves on Bonneau would be Griffith’s only two of the match.
The Mountain Lions found the goal often. Ailsa Swinburne (11:22), Tiana Campbell (25:10) and Sydney Tucker (67:50) each notched goals but it was the performance of Concord’s Leah Fleming that highlighted the match. Her hat trick included three shots (30:52, 38:06, and 43:38) that blazed from distance past Bobcat keeper Paige Miller.
Wesleyan returns home for an important Mountain East Conference showdown with the University of Charleston on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m.
