Josh Hill tabbed as D&E Assistant AD for External Relations

ELKINS, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins College Director of Athletics Jamie Joss has announced the addition of Josh Hill as the school’s Assistant Athletic Director for External Relations, announced Thursday.

Hill, who will oversee all strategic communication efforts for the Senators, arrives in Elkins following a stint as the Assistant Director for Athletic Communications at Gannon University of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

“Josh comes from an outstanding pedigree in the athletic communications field, learning from some of the best in the business in Ryan Rebholz, Noah Becker, Dan Teliski and David Rung,” Joss said. “We are extremely confident that Josh will expand our external relations department to new levels of success in promoting our department, student-athletes and all that Davis & Elkins College has to offer. We know Josh isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo in external relations, we expect him to leverage the vast skills he has acquired from his outstanding mentors while applying his own creative flair to develop new forward-thinking concepts in athletic communications.”

As part of his day-to-day duties at Gannon, Hill served as the primary contact for the school’s volleyball, men’s soccer, men’s and women’s water polo, women’s basketball and baseball programs, helping oversee the promotion and publicity of over 160 student-athletes. He was responsible for website maintenance of the newly designed gannonsports.com, nominating athletes for conference and national awards, the collection and reporting of statistics and other promotional materials for the department. He worked as the athletic department’s primary graphic designer and social media coordinator, implementing a comprehensive strategy tailored toward a consistent graphical look and an increase in creative video.

“I’m extremely grateful for the chance to lead the Davis & Elkins sports information office,” said Hill upon his hiring. “Throughout the quick-moving process, I have been continually impressed with the vision and perspective the staff and leadership have demonstrated for what should be an exciting new era for Senator Nation as part of the Mountain East Conference.”

Prior to his stay in Erie, where he earned the 2018-19 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo West Region SID of the Year award, Hill worked for two years at Frostburg State from 2016-2018. Helping the Bobcats through the NCAA Division II three-year membership process and formal acceptance into the Mountain East last summer, Hill’s daily responsibilities included media guide production, game program designs, statistics and photography.

The Homer City, Pa. native served as the primary media contact for the Frostburg State baseball, women’s basketball and volleyball teams. He helped coordinate all media efforts for the 2017 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Volleyball Championship, an event which saw seven postseason matches take place at Bobcat Arena over a two-day span.

In 2016, Hill completed a video production internship at ROOT Sports Pittsburgh (now AT&T SportsNet), the regional sports network affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pirates, where he assisted in video content and highlights for the network’s live pregame and postgame shows. He also worked as a production assistant with FOX Sports for the 2016 United States Open held at Oakmont Country Club.

Hill worked as the lead broadcaster and producer for the Crimson Hawk Sports Network, an award-winning network run by the IUP Department of Communications Media, throughout his undergraduate career. He was responsible for the scripting and execution of all pregame shows, game commentary, video highlights, promotional materials and oversight of student production assistants.

He joined the IUP athletics department as a student work-study from 2013-16 in addition to his time with the IUP athletics communications office, where his primary task was to assist in the rebrand of the IUP Athletics social media presence on Twitter. Hill aided in the creation of the IUP football media guide, hosted The Big Hit, a weekly in-studio sports television show that aired on IUP-TV, and served as the beat writer for the IUP football team.

Hill graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in communications media and a minor in sports management. He later earned a master’s degree in interdisciplinary education with a focus in business administration from Frostburg State in May 2018.

The sports information office at Davis & Elkins is responsible for all communication efforts regarding Senator athletics, including but not limited to content on the official athletics website (senatornation.com), live video and broadcasts of home events, live statistics, social media efforts, game programs, recaps for events and much more.
