CHARLESTON, WV – Gov. Jim Justice today released the following statement after learning of the passing of World War II hero, West Virginia Air National Guard founder, former West Virginia Delegate, and Braxton County native Brig. Gen. J. Kemp McLaughlin:
“General McLaughlin was among the greatest of the great West Virginians who ever lived. His service saved countless lives around the world and his leadership here at home paved the way for thousands upon thousands of men and women to further serve and protect our great state and its people.
“I strongly encourage every West Virginian to honor General McLaughlin’s unparalleled legacy by reading the story of his incredible life, written by the West Virginia National Guard in celebration of the general’s 101st birthday earlier this month.
“Cathy and I ask that all West Virginians join us in prayer for his family during this time of mourning. I will be issuing a proclamation to lower all flags to half-staff in honor of this great American.”
