Fairmont State University aims to raise $30,000 for Tygart Valley United Way, which serves individuals and families in Randolph, Barbour and three other counties.

Faculty, staff and students are taking part in the university’s annual campaign, which began September 28, according to a university press release. The other counties served are Marion, Taylor and Tucker.

The release lists WV 211, free tax preparation, financial security services, United for Kids school hygiene pantries and VolunteerHQ among the initiatives United Way operates or supports.

“Fairmont State has been one of our community’s most dedicated United Way partners for decades, and that partnership is about so much more than dollars raised. It is about a university community that continually chooses to show up for its neighbors,” Tygart Valley United Way CEO Brett White said in the release.

The university said its United Way campaigns have contributed more than $430,000 since 2010.
