Gary Clay Cowgar


Gary Clay Cowgar, 71, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at Pittsburgh VA Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.

He was born July 19, 1947, in Weston, W.Va., a son of the late Wayman Clay and Mary Josephine Lewis Cowgar. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Myrna Jo Himes.

He is survived by one son, Gary Lynn Cowgar and life companion Cheryl Romo of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Justin Cowgar of Ohio and Logan Cowgar of MI and one granddaughter, Aliyah Cowgar of Mich.

Mr. Cowgar served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was a member of the PVA in Huntington, W.Va. He was a member of the Crawford United Methodist Church in Crawford and was the owner of Cowgar’s Auto.

In honoring Mr. Cowgar’s wishes, he will be cremated.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Helen Oats officiating.
