Furious comeback bid comes up a single point short for WVWC women

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan College women’s basketball team took on the University of Virginia-Wise on Wednesday evening and fell just short, losing 59-58.

After trailing by 14 at half, the Lady ‘Cats clawed back into it with a few minutes left in the second half, but the game-winning shot fell short and the Wesleyan women dropped their fifth game of the season.

The Lady Bobcats went into the half down 36-22 and would not find life until the game’s final minutes. After finding themselves down by 19, Wesleyan went on a 25-7 to finish things out, including a 14-2 run in the games final three minutes.

Victoria Jackson tallied the game-high in points with 18 and was he only Bobcat in double figures. The Lady ‘Cats got 34 of their 58 points from their bench.

Wesleyan will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Concord University.
