Football ‘Cats remain winless after 49-16 loss to Frostburg State

FROSTBURG (Md.) — West Virginia Wesleyan College dropped to 0-5 with a 49-16 road loss to Frostburg State University Saturday.

Frostburg took the opening drive 60 yards in five plays and Owen Doyle scored on a two-yard run to put his team up 7-0 with 3:06 gone in the first quarter.

Frostburg quarterback Myles Fulton guided the Bobcats to two more touchdowns before Wesleyan got on the board. One scoring drive went 78 yards and was capped by a 32-yard pass to Cruiz Paul-Umstead with 4:38 left in the first quarter and the second was a 15-yard scramble to the end zone just as the second quarter got underway.

With 3:01 remaining in the half, Wesleyan’s Nathan Payne found Immanuel Scott for a 26-yard touchdown but Frostburg immediately answered by going 69 yards in 1:47 for a second Doyle rushing score from 10 yards out.

Frostburg did not slow down in the second half where it continued to build on its dominating offensive performance that totaled 261 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and 264 yards and three touchdowns through the air.

For Wesleyan, Payne threw for 160 yards and one touchdown and was sacked six times. Raphael Manning led the rushing attack with 80 yards on 16 carries. Scott accumulated 51 receiving yards on three receptions.

The Bobcats host Fairmont State University for homecoming weekend Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. Admission is free.
