MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU Medicine has been recognized as a Magna Cum Laude health system in Epic’s 2026 Honor Roll, placing the WVU Health System among a select group of organizations nationwide recognized for excellence in the use, optimization and maintenance of its Epic electronic health records (EHR) management system.
WVU Medicine was one of only 17 health systems nationwide to earn the Magna Cum Laude distinction from Epic, an EHR management provider, in 2026.
Epic’s voluntary Honor Roll Good Maintenance Grant Program recognizes healthcare organizations that demonstrate strong performance across eight key areas of their Epic environment: ease of use for providers and nurses, enterprise data and analytics, financial performance, health information exchange, infrastructure, patient experience, population health and staying current with Epic functionality.
Organizations must meet Epic’s criteria in seven of the eight areas to achieve Magna Cum Laude status.
“This is a tremendous achievement for WVU Medicine and a testament to the dedication of teams across our health system,” Jim Venturella, WVU Medicine chief information officer, said. “This recognition reflects our commitment to continuously optimizing technology to better serve our clinicians, staff, and patients.”
The recognition reflects more than the successful implementation of technology; it recognizes the ongoing work required to optimize Epic, adopt new functionality, improve the experience for clinicians and patients and ensure WVU Medicine continues to realize the greatest possible value from its electronic health record investment.
Achieving the distinction requires collaboration across the health system, including application and technical teams, operational leaders, clinicians, trainers, analysts and support teams. Together, these teams work continuously to maintain and improve a high-performing Epic environment.
“This accomplishment is especially meaningful because it marks the eighth consecutive year WVU Medicine has achieved one of Epic’s Honor Roll distinction levels,” Venturella said. “Very few health systems have demonstrated this level of sustained excellence, making this recognition even more significant. This achievement underscores the power of collaboration, innovation, and our shared commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.”
