BUCKHANNON – A house fire on Island Avenue Thursday was deemed unsuspicious.
A house fire at 49 Island Avenue was called into the Buckhannon Fire Department at 1:59 p.m., according to firefighter Tanner Smith. The fire originated and was contained to the exterior of the building, and firefighters extinguished the blaze at approximately 2:06 p.m.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
Buckhannon boosted its support for the West Virginia Strawberry Festival with a record $50,000 contribution, helping fund a free Main Street concert headlined by Parmalee and expanded entertainment.
Carolyn Teets, 77, of the Buckhannon community, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026. Born in Elkins, WV, she was known for her kindness, love of motorcycles, and commitment to helping others in sobriety.
