Festival of Lessons and Carols, a West Virginia Wesleyan College tradition, to be held Sunday, Dec. 4

BUCKHANNON, West Virginia – A West Virginia Wesleyan College tradition, the annual Festival of Lessons and Carols, will take place Sunday, Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. in Wesley Chapel.

“The purpose of Festival of Lessons and Carols is to invite the Wesleyan community to experience the story of Christ’s revelation to the world through reflection and song,” Rev. Jonathan Acord, WVWC Director of Spiritual and Religious Life, said.

West Virginia Wesleyan’s Concert Chorale and Concentus Vocum, conducted by Dr. R. Daniel Hughes, will perform carols, and nine members of the Wesleyan community will read Scripture to tell the story of Jesus’ birth.

Hughes added, “The music for the service will feature many traditional and loved carols, often accompanied by a brass quintet to lift us into the holiday spirit. Members of the Concert Chorale and Concentus Vocum will be singing many unique selections – with several pieces by Argentinian composers Ariel Ramirez and Astor Piazzolla. These selections will feature the choirs and student soloists, accompanied by accordion, guitar, piano and percussion.”

Immediately following the service, the congregation will recess outside for the lighting of the Christmas tree.

The Aladdin staff will prepare a holiday buffet to be served in the French See Dining Hall from 4:30-7 p.m. featuring herb-crusted roast beef, chicken marsala, stuffed pork loin and more. The cost for faculty/staff will be $9, and the cost for guests is $12.
