Fairmont State to host Leadership Marion’s Battle of the Paddle pickleball fundraiser May 3

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State University will sponsor the Battle of the Paddle Pickleball Tournament, a May 3 charity fundraiser hosted by Leadership Marion Class 43 to benefit youth, community and leadership development in Marion County.

The tournament will be held at Fairmont State’s Falcon Center from noon until 4 p.m. Teams of two will play a round-robin format with a guaranteed three-match minimum. Proceeds will be donated to the Marion County Future Farmers of America, the Dr. William E. Phillips Jr. Leadership Marion Scholarship and one tuition sponsorship for a Leadership Marion Class 44 participant.

Leadership Marion is a program of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce that works to identify, develop and sustain community leaders, building their leadership skills and their involvement across Marion County. Fairmont State’s sponsorship covers the Falcon Center facility along with food and drink, allowing Class 43 to maximize the dollars raised for the event’s beneficiaries.

“Fairmont State University is proud to support Battle of the Paddle and to strengthen the partnerships that lift our communities,” said President Mike Davis. “Leadership Marion plays a vital role in developing leaders who not only make a difference here in Marion County, but across the entire state of West Virginia. We’re honored to work alongside organizations that invest in people, expand opportunities, and build a stronger future for our region and our state.”

Registration fees cover food and a swag bag for players, with additional giveaways, raffles and games throughout the event. The tournament is open to both players and spectators.
