Also surviving are 26 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, 23 second-great-grandchildren, and seven third-great-grandchildren.
Two siblings surviving are Dolly Coleman of Tennerton and Ruth Bunner Scott of West Palm Beach, Florida. Edith loved children and sports, especially playing basketball, softball, and volleyball. If she could help it, she never missed a WVU football or basketball game and even stayed up after midnight in her 90s watching BYU football. Since her school days were in the 1930s, she lived vicariously through her children’s athletic and band events. In her later years, she loved competing in Senior Olympics and playing pool and participating in aerobics at the Senior Center. In spring and summer, Edith was outside hiking, walking, and especially working long hours in her vegetable and flower gardens.
Edith believed in community participation. She was a devout Christian and held many leadership positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her favorites being those with the youth and with athletics. For decades she was one of the highest collectors of funds for Right to Life. Over the years, other membership participation included the Tennerton Lions Club, the Central West Virginia Republican Women, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She knew no enemy. Her life is her testimony, and she lived to hear, “Well done, My good and faithful servant,” Matthew 25:23.
Edith’s family will receive friends from 1–3 and 5–7 PM on Monday, May 4, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 179 S. Kanawha Street, Buckhannon. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at 11:00 AM, with burial following in the Marple Chapel Cemetery, Alexander. Edith loved flowers but if preferred, donations may be made to Right to Life, c/o Maureen Hall, PO Box 1005, Buckhannon, WV 26201.
The family is forever grateful to the tender care of the WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s staff, Hospice staff, Upshur County Senior Center staff, and Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel Services.
