Early turnovers plague Lady Bucs in 82-41 loss to unbeaten East Fairmont

FAIRMONT – An early full court press by the Class AAA No. 2 and unbeaten East Fairmont Bees forced the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs into nine turnovers in their first 11 possessions putting them down by a 15-3 score early in their Big 10 contest Thursday night.

The Lady Bucs were never able to recover from the poor start in an 82-41 setback as they committed 26 turnovers in the first half and 37 for the game.

Down 15-3, B-U’s Harley Dean scored on a putback and Alyssa Abel knocked down two free throws making it a 15-7 game.

Hodge’Nay Henderson ended the quarter with an old-fashioned three-point play pulling the Lady Bucs to within eight, at 19-11.

East Fairmont scored the first seven points of the second quarter for a 26-11 lead.

Kyndal Davis put in a lay-up to make it a 28-17 game, but the Bees went on a 19-0 run for a 47-17 advantage.

B-U trailed by a 49-19 score at the break.

Buckhannon-Upshur managed just two field goals in the third quarter, one from Abel and one from Rosie Shackleford getting outscored by a 19-4 margin.

That left the Lady Bucs down by a 68-23 score.

Down 77-29, the Lady Bucs scored went on an 8-0 run behind a lay-up from Abel, two straight baskets from Dean and free throws from Henderson and Makenzie Egress closing it to a 77-37 game.

B-U ended the game on a 4-0 run with two free throws from Henderson and a basket from Egress.

Kasey Rogers led the Bees with 18 points as East Fairmont improved to 11-0 overall and 4-0 in the Big 10 Conference.

Dean had a team-high 12 points for the Lady Bucs, who dropped to 2-8 overall and 1-5 in the Big 10 Conference.

The one stat line that was in favor of the Lady Bucs was rebounding as they held a 42-30 margin over the Bees.

The B-U-John Marshall game set for Saturday was wiped out by the weather.

The Lady Bucs will be back in action Tuesday at University for a 7:30 p.m. game.
