On Monday, the City of Buckhannon announced several temporary parking and traffic restrictions for West Virginia Strawberry Festival week to support festival activities, parade staging and emergency access.

The city said several parking areas and streets will be temporarily restricted as downtown Buckhannon welcomes thousands of visitors.

From May 11-19, no parking will be allowed in Lot 6 on Madison Street, the old bank lot between Madison and Lincoln streets, Lot 7 across from the post office and Jawbone Park and Lot 2 on Spring Street across from the post office.

From May 11-18, on-street parking will be prohibited on East Lincoln Street. Traffic on East Lincoln Street will be one-way from South Florida Street to South Kanawha Street, and the street will be used for emergency access. Vehicles parked there will be towed.

Lot 5 at the Public Safety Complex will also be a temporary no-parking area May 15-16.

Parking will be available in Lot 1 on South Kanawha Street across from Kanawha Lounge and Lot 3 on North Spring Street. Two-hour parking will be available on Main Street and side streets off Main Street except during parades and special events.

Vehicles parked on the Main Street parade route during restricted times will be towed. Main Street parade and event-related no-parking restrictions include:

  • Junior Royalty Parade: Thursday, May 14, from 5-8 p.m.
  • Firemen’s Parade, Party Gras and Concert: Friday, May 15, from 5 p.m. to midnight
  • Grand Feature Parade and Concert: Saturday, May 16, from 8 a.m. to midnight
  • Strawberry Festival Car Show: Sunday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The city said blue areas on the festival traffic map (see image below) are parade staging areas where traffic will not be permitted. The pink route is the parade route, where no parking will be allowed, and towing will be enforced. Orange marks the detour route, and green marks Firemen’s Parade staging only.

Questions may be directed to Buckhannon City Hall at 304-472-1651 or the Buckhannon Police Department at 304-472-5723.
